Saint Peter’s University has announced it is expanding its programming in the computer science field with a five-week blockchain technology course: a six-credit course offering that will be held each summer. The 2018 course, which began on June 25th, is offered through the computer and information sciences department in the School of Business. It is designed for working information technology/business professionals or individuals with an undergraduate degree in computer science, business, engineering or math who are interested in acquiring knowledge and expertise in using blockchain technology, including building blockchain applications.

“The School of Business has recently hosted a number of events and panels on blockchain technology and the demand for knowledge in this cutting-edge technology has become evident,” said Edward Moskal, M.S., M.M.S., chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences and director of the master’s program in cyber security. “Our expert faculty have a deep understanding of applications, programming, cryptography and cyber security and have used their knowledge to develop a timely and relevant program.”

The course is comprised of four modules: Blockchain Technology Cases and Corporate Experience, Blockchain Foundations and Mathematical Underpinnings, Development Platforms and Language Foundations, and Blockchain Practicum and Programming Projects. Upon conclusion of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of what blockchain is and how it works from a business as well as a technical standpoint. They will also gain insight into how blockchain will affect the future of the industry. Students will receive a certificate of completion and six credits that are transferrable or can be applied to the Master of Science in Cyber Security.
