At the New Jersey Entrepreneurial Network meeting on March 29, tech and life science startups displayed posters describing their companies’ technologies. They also pitched to a group of judges for prizes consisting of complimentary provisional patent-application preparation and filing services from the intellectual property law firm of Volpe and Koenig (Philadelphia and Princeton).
IDT Ventures Holds Showcase Pitch Event at Newark Headquarters
On April 23, the incubator IDT Ventures held a pitch event at its headquarters, in Newark, during the company’s first-ever hackathon. Jacob Jonas, director of IDT Ventures, MC'ed the event, and described his company by saying, “Helping immigrant and underbanked communities is one of our primary goals at IDT.” Many of the startups that presented are businesses geared towards immigrants and immigrant communities, either directly or by virtue of the businesses or business functions they address.

Shake-Up at Synchronoss Sees Founder Waldis Return as CEO
Poor performance at Synchronoss (Bridgewater) after its acquisition of Intralinks (New York) for more than $800 million earlier this year — which saw Ronald Hovsepian become CEO of the company — has led to a shake-up at the company. Hovsepian has now stepped down. Returning to the role of CEO is Stephen Waldis, founder and chairman of the board. Also returning to the company as CFO is Lawrence Irving, the former CFO.
