These are Five of the Startups Working at the HAX Development Program in Newark

Here are five of the 10 startups participating in the HAX deep-tech startup development program in Newark. The remaining five are still in stealth mode. We’ve listed the five startups below along with their locations and the names of their founders or teams. Note that two of the five originated in New Jersey.

Renovate Robotics (Seattle, Wash.) – automated shingle and solar installation. Founder: Andy Stulc.

XN Health (Houston, Texas) – a medical device company that induces diaphragm contractions in mechanically ventilated patients to protect against ventilator-induced diaphragm dysfunction (VIDD). Cofounders: Elizabeth Jaworski, CEO; Lance Black, chief medical officer; and Mehdi Razavi, medical adviser.

Portable Diagnostic Systems (Robbinsville) – a portable diagnostic device that provides law enforcement with accurate drug-screening data from a small sample of saliva. Cofounders: Glennon Simmons, CEO; Michael McRae, CTO; and Igor Muravchik.

PONS (Jersey City) – portable ultrasound technology utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning. Cofounders: Soner Hacihaliloğlu, CEO, and Ilker Hacihaliloglu, CTO.

Gaia AI (Boston, Mass.) – a hardware and software platform that captures data for forest carbon markets. Peter McHale, cofounder and CEO; Matthew Carpenter, cofounder and head of product, and Acshi Haggenmiller, lead roboticist.
