NJ TECH CORNER: Verisk Analytics Inc.
Company Overview
Verisk Analytics Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSK) is a Jersey City–based data analytics provider serving the insurance, energy and specialized markets, and financial services sectors in the U.S. and elsewhere around the world. Customers include all of the top 100 property and casualty insurance providers in the U.S., the top 30 credit card issuers in North America, UK and Australia, as well as nine of the top10 global energy providers. The company serves a wide range of companies, governments and institutions across the energy, chemicals, metals and mining, and power and renewable value chains. The company announced this year that it agreed to acquire Genscape, a provider of real-time data and intelligence for the commodity and energy markets and Keystone Aerial Surveys Inc., a business owned by PASCO, Japan’s largest geospatial service provider. In September, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey handed down a verdict that ordered Verisk to pay $125 million in damages to aerial imaging firm EagleView. The jury found that Verisk and its Xactware Solutions unit willfully infringed EagleView’s proprietary intellectual property. Founded in 1971, Verisk has offices throughout the United States, including California, New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, Texas and Utah as well as in nearly 30 countries globally. As of Dec. 31, 2018, the company employed more than 8,100 workers.
