Cellphone-Sniffing Dogs Reduce Contraband in NJ Prisons

The state is cracking down on cellphone use by prisoners, with the help of nine dogs trained to sniff out the gasses emitted by the devices. The dogs, along with their handlers, travel to N.J. jails to locate cellphones hidden by prisoners. For the fiscal year that ended last June, the number of smuggled cellphones confiscated from state prisoners dropped 20 percent after rising, a study says.
