Support NJ Startup YouGiveGoods’ Fresh Produce, Animal Shelter Campaigns This Holiday Season

One of New Jersey’s startups fascinates because it does good work and makes a profit, too.

YouGiveGoods is the Mendham-based company that runs virtual food drives. Its platform circumvents the limitations of a traditional food drive, which can accept only canned goods.

Here’s how YouGiveGoods works: organizers at churches, schools, companies and various charities set up a drive for free. Donors select the items they want to buy for the drive. YouGiveGoods makes a profit on each transaction. It takes care of delivery logistics.

The startup recently expanded into fresh produce drives. We all know how important fresh produce is to everyone’s health; YouGiveGoods is helping to get it to those in need. We think that’s a beautiful thing.

Starting today, #GivingTuesday, and continuing through the end of the year, YouGiveGoods will deliver fresh produce to organizations throughout the Garden State.

The N.J. tech community can help. Go to this website and click the region you want to help.

YouGiveGoods is now supporting organizations in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. When you click a region, you can make a general donation to that geographic area.

Scroll down a bit further and check out the individual organizations that will be receiving the produce. In New Jersey, for example, organizations in Bound Brook, Newton, East Orange, Morristown, Bayonne, Union, Paterson, Union City and Englewood are being supported.

The startup is also helping animal shelters this holiday season. The National Animal Shelter Campaign serves 24 states. In New Jersey, YouGiveGoods provides food and supplies to some 13 shelters.

So on this #GivingTuesday and throughout the year, urges you to support people in need with fresh produce and to give our furry friends a break by funding the shelters that care for them all winter long.

Once again, the website for donating fresh produce is  and the website for supporting animal shelters is
